Let's take a close look at the Drywall Automatic Taper
The Automatic Taper is the first tool used in an Automatic Taping Tool Set when taping exposed drywall flat and angle joints. The Taper is filled with Joint Compound using a special Loading Pump with Gooseneck Attachement. The Automatic Taper also hold upto a 500 foot roll of drywall tape. The Automatic Taper consists of a head (where the mud is applied to the tape, and where the tape is cut) and a body (where the mud is stored and cutting and creasing mechanisms are controlled.) The head contains a mud gate that ensures the correct amount of mud is applied to the tape. The head also contains a cutting assembly that cuts the tape to the designed length. Underneath the head you'll find a creaser wheel to help aid the installation of tape on the angle joints. There is a level on the end (or butt of the taper tube) called the Creaser Level or Creaser Trigger that allows you to control the Creaser Wheel at the head of the taper to assist when applying tape in the angles. The body of the taper consists of a Control Sleeve that fiberglass lamp wickwraps around the main tube of the taper. The Control Sleeve operates the cutting component of the taper and with one pull, it cuts the tape and advances the new tape back to the desired position for future cuts.
As simply as this tool is in its mechanical form, it is also a bit complicated due to having over 100 individual parts. Master of this tool typically learn how to replace parts and perform maintenance of the tool themselves. Suppliers of the equipment typically offer automatic taping tool replacement parts and repair services.
An Automatic Taper can provide years of profitable usage with limited maintenance required. The tool consist of wear parts that will need to be replaced the more you use the tool: Pyramid Blade (a unique triangular blade used for cutting the tape), Cable and Plunger (the cable and plunger are used the pull the joint compound up to the head of the Taper), and other odds and ends.
